A Token of Remembrance

Everybody brings back something from every place they visit. Some bring back souvenirs and some a bucket full of memories. Well, read on to find out what I got!

We met for the first time in a small handicraft shop in Pondicherry.
By the sea side, happy shoppers picking up stuff, a scene quite merry!
The moment I saw her I knew we’ll be friends forever
Who cares if we’re different, however!
It’s one of those friendships which are to stay,
It only grows stronger with every passing day.
We’ve been together through thick and thin, good days and bad,
When life showed shades of grey or green a tad!
She comes with me wherever I go,
Well, it’s all about the trust, you know!
She’s a good companion, though she doesn’t speak, much
Keeps a low profile, no quirks as such!
We’ve traveled far and wide.
Be it up north or down south, she has always been by my side (literally)!
She’s there for me whenever I need,
At work or while whiling away listening to Creed!
She’ll get hurt to keep me safe, she’s like a shield
Like a defender at center field!
I’ve tried to be there for her too
But fate had other plans, of which who knew!
We were on the way back from Hyderabad,
A sudden brake and I heard a ‘click’ sound.
She broke a bone so that all of mine are fine
Bruised, yet she hasn’t lost her charm and shine!
I fixed the wound; it seems to be fine so far
She’s good to go to Bhutan, or even Myanmar!
There’s still a visible scar, but not that she minds
Jus’ that of the terrific trip it reminds!
I take her to office with me everyday, my friends like her,
They know I won’t exchange her for nothing; she’s close to my coeur (French for heart).
So before the story takes a different angle,
I should tell you that this is the story of my favorite coconut shell BANGLE!
